• He was born on the 17th of December, 1942.

• Buhari is the oldest person to assume the office of  President in Nigeria while Gowon was the youngest at 31.

• He is the the fifteenth Head of the Nigerian government and the fifth democratically elected President in the history of Nigeria. 

• His democratically elected predecessors were; Shagari, Olusegun Obasanjo, Umaru Yar'adua and Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.

• He was Head of State of Nigeria from 31st December, 1983 to 27th August, 1985 after seizing power in a military coup.

       

• During his rule as military Head of State, over 500 people were jailed for corruption and wasting of taxpayers money.

• He built the two existing petrochemical refineries during his short stay in power as a military dictator.

• He ran unsuccessfully for the office of President in 2003, 2007 and 2011 before emerging victorious during the fourth attempt in 2015.

         

• Buhari is the second President of Katsina extraction to rule Nigeria.
